This little guy (along with his elephant companion) makes a great little gift for you Valentine! This pattern is good for beginners and works up quickly!
Materials:
3.5 mm hook
Yarn (I use cotton yarn, weight 4): medium brown, light pink, and red
Polyester fiber stuffing
2 9 mm or 10 mm safety eyes. I used 10 mm in the bear shown in the photos.(Safety eyes are not recommended for small kids, but you may use black embroidery thread to embroider eyes if you prefer).
1 8 mm nose
Stitch marker (to keep track of rows)
Finishing/tapestry needle (to sew parts together, embroider nose, and weave in ends.

This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
I choose to begin by chaining two and then completing 6 sc starting in the 2nd ch from the hook. Of course, you may alternatively do a magic ring if you prefer.
Head and Body:
Stuff as you go. Use brown yarn.
Row 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook (6)
R 2: inc. x 6 (12)
R 3: (sc, inc.) x 6 (18)
R 4: (2 sc, inc.) x 6 (24)
R 5: (3 sc, inc.) x 6 (30)
R 6: (4 sc, inc.) x 6 (36)
R 7-13 (7 rows): 36 sc (36)
Insert eyes between rows 10 and 11, about 8 stitches apart (about 6-7 visible stitches, not covered by the eyes). Insert safety nose between rows 11 and 12, spaced evenly between the eyes. If you are using eyes smaller than 10 mm, you may want to place them slightly closer.
R 14: (4 sc, dec.) x 6 (30)

Head is complete. Continue to make the attached body. Continue to stuff as you go, with very light stuffing in the neck. (If you stuff the neck too tightly, your stuffing will likely show).

Ears (make 2)
Start with light pink yarn.

Switch to brown yarn.

R 5: Fold in half and crochet both ends together with 9 scs. (9)
F.o., and leave a long tail for sewing.
Arm (make 2)
Start with light pink yarn.
R 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook (6)
R 2: (sc, inc.) x 3 (9)
Switch to brown yarn.
R 3-4 (2 rows): 9 sc (9)
F.o., stuff, and leave a long tail for sewing.
Leg (make 2)
Start with light pink yarn.
R 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook (6)
R 2: inc. x 6 (12)
Switch to brown yarn.
R 3-5 (3 rows): 12 sc (12)
F.o., stuff, and leave a long tail for sewing.
Tail
Use brown yarn.
R 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook (6)
R 2-3 (2 rows): 6 sc
F.o. and do not stuff. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Heart
Use red yarn.
R 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook (6)
R 2: inc. x 6 (12)
R 3-4 (2 rows): 12 sc (12)
F.o. and leave a long tail for sewing. Next, make a second piece following these steps, except do not finish off this one. You will continue crocheting by joining to the next round of the first piece.
R 5: As explained above, connect your second piece to your first piece with a single crochet. You want to connect to the first stitch after you finished off (in other words, the first stitch of the new round). Complete 12 sc around the first piece. Next, connect with a single crochet back to the second piece. Complete 12 sc around the 2nd piece. You should have 24 stitches in total. (12 on each piece x 2 = 24). (24)
Lightly stuff the tips of your heart, and continue to slightly stuff as you go for the remainder of the heart. After row 6 or so, you may notice a small hole in the top of your heart (from where you connected the pieces). Use one of your yarn tails to sew this closed.
R 6-7 (2 rows): 24 sc (24)
R 8: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
R 9: (sc, dec.) x 6 (12)
R 10: dec. x 6 (6)
F.o. and weave in any loose ends.
Below is a close-up of the heart from after I sewed it on.
Assembly
Fold ears slightly so that they are rounded and decide where you would like them placed upon head. I put my yarn tail in my tapestry needle and inserted it between rows 5 and 6, went beneath the stitches and pulled the tapestry needle back up between rows 9 and 10. I thread the yarn through the other end of my ear, pull to tighten a little and then sew the bottom of the ear alongside the head.
Next, sew on the legs and arms where desired. Make sure that the legs are a bit closer to the center of your bear than your arms. This will be important when you sew on the heart.
Sew the tail on the back.
Use red yarn to attach the heart to the legs. To do so, run your tapestry needle beneath 2-3 stitches on one leg and then run your needle beneath 2-3 stitches of one bottom side of the heart. Wrap around a few times to make sure it is secure. Repeat on the second leg. I stopped here, but if you’d like to make your heart even more secure, you also might sew the heart to the arms and/or chest.
